Ephedra is a naturally-occurring plant derivative, which has been used in supplements for weight loss, performance enhancement and increased energy. Ephedra weight loss supplements have been linked to heart attack, stroke, psychiatric problems and death. Its principal active ingredient is Ephedrine, a drug that is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and found in over-the-counter asthma medications, which when chemically synthesized.
